About Us
Built in the toolroom. Proven on the production floor.
At Ultratech Tool & Design, we’ve never believed that being a good stamping supplier is simply about having the right equipment. It’s about knowing how to use it, understanding what your customers depend on, and delivering consistently when production schedules leave little room for excuses.
We’re a family-owned metal stamping manufacturer based in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. Since 1989, we’ve built our business around a straightforward philosophy: know your niche, invest in your capabilities, stand behind your work, and give customers a reason to keep coming back.
Today, Ultratech specializes in high-volume progressive metal stamping, in-house tool and die, and value-added manufacturing. We support customers across North America who need more than a company capable of making a metal part. They need a manufacturer capable of producing that part, thousands or millions of times, with the consistency their operations demand.
And that’s where we do our best work.
Our Story: From Tool & Die to High-Volume Manufacturing.
Ultratech was founded in 1989 by Bill Melang, beginning as a tool and die shop serving the small-engine industry.
Like many successful manufacturing businesses, our growth didn’t happen overnight. It came from years of building tools, solving problems, developing relationships, and recognizing opportunities to do more for the customers who trusted us.
Toolmaking was our foundation. It taught us to understand how a part is made, what makes a die perform, and why the decisions made long before the first production run can determine the success of an entire program.
As our customers’ needs evolved, so did Ultratech.
We invested in larger stamping presses, expanded our manufacturing capabilities, and gradually transformed from a company primarily building tooling into one producing high-volume metal stampings for some of North America’s most demanding industries.
What began in the toolroom has grown into a full-scale production stamping operation, with presses up to 1,000 tons, advanced progressive die capabilities, welding, assembly, and IATF 16949-certified quality systems.
Yet the most important part of our story hasn’t changed.
We’re still a family-owned business. We’re still deeply involved in what happens on our shop floor. And we still believe our reputation is earned; one customer, one program, and one shipment at a time.
We Know What We Do Well.
Manufacturing is a broad industry, and we’ve never tried to be everything to everyone.
Our strength is high-volume production metal stamping, particularly progressive die applications where tooling performance, process efficiency, material utilization, and repeatability make a meaningful difference.
We manufacture components used in automotive, heavy truck, industrial equipment, agriculture, and other demanding applications where quality and dependable production are essential.
But having capabilities is only part of the equation.
We understand that a successful stamping program isn’t measured by how good the first sample looks. It’s measured by how consistently that part can be produced over the life of the program.
A die needs to perform. A press needs to run. Material needs to be available. Quality needs to remain consistent. Shipments need to support the customer’s production requirements.
All those things matter, and we take them seriously.
